Are you a motivated individual interested in making a difference in the arts community?
Then you are in the right place, volunteer with us and become part of the creative team!

We have a wide variety of volunteer options available for everyone to become involved with.
We have opportunities that include everything from camp assistants, classroom assistants, administration work, classroom setup, assisting with events, or even joining one of our committees.

This is also a great opportunity for those needing to complete their volunteer hours required upon graduation for high school.

Volunteers will assist instructors in everyday activities required in the classroom. Jobs may/will include:

- helping with clean up and showing students how to tidy up after themselves by being positive role models.
- working one on one with students if they need help.
- supervising students during break time and enjoying games with them.

Event Volunteer
Throughout the year, The Art School of Peterborough hosts  and is involved in a variety of creative events in the community. Some of our events have been; the art market, our annual art auction, art-a-thon, culture days, and the AGP Studio tour.
We realize most individuals do not have the time to commit to our event committee and wish to become involved with a single event. Being an event volunteer is a role we dearly appreciate people taking on. Our events wouldn't be possible without your support and dedication.

Come experience the wonder and joy of your creativity in motion. The class will develop a fundamental understanding of stop motion animation while exploring an exciting variety of animation techniques. Students will use clay, paper, charcoal, lego, toys, found objects and more to bring their imaginations to life. Through short screenings and demos the class will draw inspiration from the history of animation and contemporary stop-motion artists. Students will learn the full creative process from start to finish, including camera set up and shooting, character and story creation, set building and more. This course offers an opportunity to learn the fundamental skills in jewellery-making using basic tools and materials. You will explore metal working techniques such as piercing, filing, forming, cold connections, soldering, and polishing.

StarterTool Kit:

A starter kit of basic tools and samples of base metals must be purchased before the first lesson (first-time students only). The cost of this kit is $60 (including tax, see payment options) and includes the following items:

This course offers a complete introduction to painting with transparent watercolours, from painting wet on wet through glazing and calligraphy. Introduction to composition, colour theory and brushwork will be part of each lesson as we explore a variety of subject matter. You will be introduced to new techniques through demonstrations, and you will have plenty of time to paint during class.

Material List:
1 sheet of Arches 140 lb Watercolour Paper (22 x 30)
1 brush at least a # 10 round (#12 or 14 even better) and /or a 1 inch flat should spring back when wet
A palette something to put your paints in …should have a large mixing area / areas and a lid.
Paints Primary colours- red, yellow and blue to start.
Alizarin Crimson or Cadmium Red
Ultramarine Blue
New Gamboge (Yellow) or some other yellow hue
Burnt Sienna is also essential.
1 masking tape
HB pencil
Sketch book
12” ruler
Paper towel
*Eventually you will need masking fluid

Portraits are highly valued in the History of Art, Jan Vermeer, Ingres and Chuck Close, have all explored the motif of portraiture. It is a great skill to learn. Follow Alex Bierk, a dynamic young artist, explore the motif of the portraits. Learn a specific process to successfully create hyper realistic works of art. Students will use a small grid to allow individuals to carefully observe the intimate details of the subject. Working solely in black and white, individuals will paint a complex 18” x 24” portrait. The focus will be on the portrait however these techniques can be translated to rendering a subject in any medium. The class will be augmented by demonstrations and discussion.

Join us Wednesday evening to create these masterful portraits. This process is very detailed, but highly successful. You will be working all term on the one portrait.

 

It is mandatory that all new students attend the first week as photographs will be taken for self portraits, canvases will be given out and prep work for painting will be given, and students will have a tour of Alex's Studio.

Material Fee - $70
(for Canvas, photo shoot and printing) Students still need to purchase brushes and paints

This course guides beginner- and intermediate-level painters in skill-building and learning practical portraiture techniques. Students may work with either oils or acrylics and will receive instruction specific to the medium of choice. By tackling multiple projects, students will gain an understanding of how to select and create good reference photos, as well as experience in translating their images onto canvas. We’ll also explore modes of expression through colour, composition, and paint application. For those who have never used oil paints before, acrylics are the recommended option. Class discussion and demos will be supplemented with handouts.

In this ten week course, you will be guided through the planning and production of an illustrative, photo-realistic watercolour painting that is based on your own choice of subjects. You will be encouraged to use your imagination and create a finished image that is based on a real subject, but changes it in unique ways that couldn’t be captured with conventional photography.

Most of you have been taught to paint what you see; this course will teach you to paint what you want to see.

This course is designed to enhance your photography skills. It is a great course if you have already taken our Photography I. Learn how to create interesting images that combine the sensibility or feelings of a photographic eye with technique and tools of photography equipment - to distinguish between superior and mediocre images and to better understand the harmony of artistic elements, compositions, light and exposure, with the capabilities of film, the camera, lenses and accessories. Each of the three classes will concentrate on one specific method of photography.

Digital Images will be used extensively to illustrate technique, composition, and exposure.

During the teaching sessions, students will be required to do a photographic project each week and present five images at the following lesson for evaluation and learning. Photos can be brought in on CD or card reader or memory stick/data traveller devices.
